2017-2018 PTA Executive Board Members

Please feel free to contact anyone of us with any questions/concerns about the PTA.

President – Gabe Comi
My name is Gabriel Comi and I am running for the position of President. I have a first grader named Colin attending Little River in Ms. Van Wagoner's class. I've had many opportunities to volunteer in the classroom as well as attend the wonderful events put on by the PTA over the course of this school year and am impressed and ecouraged by the commitment of the PTA to our community and children. I want to help contribute to that. For the past sixteen years, I have been an engineer at Raytheon. I have a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and a Master's degree in Software Engineering. I welcome the opportunity to serve the school in this position.

1st Vice President Event/Activity Coordinator – Johanna Barker
My name in Johanna Barker and I am excited to serve as your Volunteer Coordinator for the 2017-2018 school year. My son, Isaac, is a kindergartener in Mrs. Amend's class. We moved to the area in December from California. I have enjoyed getting to volunteer in my child's class and getting to know people through PTA activities. As a previous middle school teacher, I have seen how much help a PTA can be for the school. I am glad to serve on the PTA board as a chance to support the teachers and provide fun activities for the kids.

2nd Vice President Fundraising – Amy Heifetz
My name is Amy Heifetz, and I am running for the position of Vice President, Fundraising. I have a first grader in Ms. VanWagoner's class and a second grader at Buffalo Trail elementary who has been in the Loudoun County School system for five years. I am often found volunteering at Little River and Buffalo rail or assisting in both of my kids classrooms. I am also the Community Partner Coordinator for a local running group called Moms Run This Town which is where my fundraising experience lies. I work full-time as a Project Manager for a health and wellness company under Aetna's umbrella. I welcome the opportunity to serve on the PTA Board at Little River and becoming involved int he fundraising efforts, strengthening the relationships with businesses, organizations, and individuals throughout our community.

Treasurer – Marty Buchanan
My name is Marty Buchanan and I am running for PTA Treasurer. My wife and I have lived in South Riding for 14 years and currently have two children at Little River (5th and 3rd grade) and a daughter in 7th grade at Lunsford. I have volunteered as an Eagle Eye Dad in the past, and my wife has served as room mom for all three children over the years. I am a CPA and currently serve as Vice President and Controller at The Urban Institute. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the PTA and Little River Elementary.

Secretary – Kim Krotine-Lane
Hello, I am Kim Krotine-Lane and I am running for the position of Secretary for the 2017-2018 school year at Little River Elementary. I have two very active sons here at LRE. One is currently in third grade and one is currently in fifth grade. I have a Masters Degree in Art Therapy and I am a freelance graphic designer in my free time.

I have volunteered with the PTA and school in various areas over the years including: front desk help, room mom, field trip chaperone, baking committee, first day greeter, hearing/vision screening, photo days and field day. Additionally, I have volunteered at many Fun Runs, Basketball Madness, Fifth Grade Promotion Committee, Winter Dances, Monster Mash Bingo Bash, and Holiday Shops. I enjoy the community spirit that these events bring to our school.

For the past three years, I have been the coordinator for the LRE Box Tops for Education program. My committee and I have counted tends of thousands of box tops and personally helped bring in over $5,000 for our PTA to use for our children.

My goal for the 2017-2018 school year would be to increase attendance at meetings and parent/teacher involvement in the PTA. I feel this would be possible through communication and input from our families on the direction of our PTA.
